What is PresidentSpiderman?
Simply I’m a fan of the Spiderman theme. But it’s deeper than just fandom. Although the super hero is awesome, and it would be great if there were someone who could sling web, fight villains and be a scientist/photographer all at the same time; there isn’t, and so we have to do those things on our own, well, except for the sling web thing.
What really makes me a fan of Spiderman is what the character represents. It’s the simple gospel truths that surround Spiderman that really motivates me such as “there is a hero in all of us.” Or “with great power comes great responsibility.”
Secondly it’s a plea: “Spiderman for president.” Of all positions, the President of the United States of America is one of the most powerful and influential in the world. The world needs someone in power with high moral fabric, someone who is self sacrificing, and who lifts those around them to be better people and live more meaningful lives through a righteous example.
To me the fictional Spiderman is a representation of what this country and the world needs in a leader. True, we should focus on real life people as our heroes and examples. But just about everybody knows who Spiderman is, and not everyone knows who my parents, James J. Braddock or other great real life heros are. So Spiderman is just the face of a hope of a better tomorrow, but in this site you will find little to nothing that is actually about him.
Finally it’s a type of the way that I learn. The Holy Ghost is a gift from God to teach and to testify of all truth, even if that truth comes while watching a fictional movie like “Spiderman” or reading a fictional book. There is nowhere better than the scriptures and testimonies of the prophets and apostles that we can gain a sound understanding of the gospel of Jesus Christ. But the word of God is not a closed book.
There are both obvious and hidden treasures of knowledge spread throughout the world. Knowledge and truth are everywhere. Capitalize on it! If I am listening to a song and I feel the Spirit, I don’t let that go, I take what I felt and learned to the scriptures and expound upon it, until I feel that I’ve sufficiently learned what I could from it at that time. No matter what the occasion, if I feel impressed, I take it in, study, expound, and then record. I’ve done that with Spiderman, and other things, it works.
But please don’t misunderstand. I am not in a Spiderman fan club, nor do I read the comic books, so I am a novice in Spiderman pop culture. Like I said, I am a fan of what Spiderman represents, and although the movies and literature are entertaining to me, that’s not what I am, or this site is about.
